Message from the CEO
March 2021

On Thursday, March 18, The Prince George’s County Council, Venture Philanthropy Partners + RaiseDC, and Fair Chance hosted Prince George’s Proud — a celebration of the 2021 graduates of the Ready for Work program in Prince George’s County, MD.

The Ready for Work Nonprofit Capacity Building Initiative provides select nonprofits in Prince George’s County with engaging, three-year long capacity building partnerships to help improve organizational outcomes and strengthen each nonprofit’s capacity to support young people in achieving their goals. Over 130 guests joined us live for a virtual program (that has since been viewed by 500 people!) honoring the four nonprofit leaders and organizations that made up our first cohort of partners in the program: Reverend Gail Addison of End Time Harvest Ministries; Joseph Fisher of First Generation College Bound; Brooke Kidd of Joe’s Movement Emporium; and Toni Lewis of Foundation for the Advancement of Music and Education (FAME).

These nonprofit leaders have dedicated the past three years to improving their systems and building their leadership skills to improve their programming for the youth of Prince George’s County. Interim progress data shows that the graduates saw:

  • A 45% average increase in youth served
  • a 42% average increase in budget
  • A decrease in dependence on County funding

Learn more about these organizations and the six other nonprofits in the Ready for work program here. You can watch the full program below and view the social media conversation from the evening here.

Fair Chance is grateful to the Prince George’s County Council and Venture Philanthropy Partners for funding our work in Prince George’s County and I look forward to celebrating the next class of outstanding nonprofit leaders with you next year!

Service,
