Our 10-Year Strategic Vision

At Fair Chance, we partner with organizations on the frontlines to strengthen their sustainability, transform leaders, and bolster their capacity to achieve life-changing results for children and youth experiencing poverty.

Children, youth, and families served by our alumni

Nearly 20% of children in the U.S. live below the federal poverty level.

Poverty rates for youth are increasing across the nation but these rates are even more pronounced where racial inequities and systemic barriers exist. Community-based nonprofits step in to fill critical gaps, but like the youth they serve, they face big challenges such as:

Small budgets

Lack of access to resources and funding

Working in isolation and many more

That’s where Fair Chance comes in.

We believe that small, community-based nonprofits are critical players in combating the effects of poverty on children. Here is how we support organizations:

1. Annually, we select small nonprofits, predominantly led by people of color, to take their organizations to the next level.

2. We provide a unique capacity building program that strengthens their organizational infrastructure and sustainability at no cost

3. We ensure these organizations are strong resources in their communities for years to come – leading to more opportunities and better outcomes for children, youth, and their families.

STORIES OF IMPACT

Since 2002, we have served over 200 nonprofits in Washington, DC and Prince George’s County, MD. Results show that nonprofits that complete a Fair Chance Partnership go on to double their budget and double the number of children they serve — providing more opportunities and access to those most affected by poverty.
