Advocate for Change
Government policies and practices have the potential to help or hurt nonprofits, their workers, and the social sector at large. Because of this, we see advocacy as key to our mission.
We advocate with government, nonprofit, philanthropy, and other national and local partners to strengthen the nonprofit sector.
We founded the Coalition for Nonprofit Equity a collective of more than 1,000 community-based organizations in Washington, DC. Through the coalition, we successfully advocated for the DC city government to adopt a Nonprofit Fair Compensation Act in the fall of 2019. We continue to advocate for the full funding and implementation of this law as well as other practices to support nonprofit equity.
We also mobilize and support community-based organizations with the knowledge and skills to advocate for themselves.
